Storage and use of personally identifiable information on the McGill University Bookstore Web site is governed by Quebec’s Act Respecting Access to Documents Held by Public Bodies and the Protection of Personal Information (R.S.Q., chapter A-2.1).
Any information retained as a result of your visit to the site (see below for details) is stored on servers located outside of McGill University, in Montreal, QC, Canada.
In using this site, two distinct sets of information are collected:
- When visiting or browsing, information relating to your browser, IP address (and consequently geographic location) are collected;
- When placing an order, a shipping address, billing address and email address are collected. This data is not collected unless you create an account on the McGill University Bookstore Web site or purchase items.
How the information is used
Aggregated (anonymous) data collected from your browsing session is used to track page views, to understand the geographic location of our potential clients, and to track browser usage. This information is then used to enhance the site and target advertising so that we can best serve you. No personally identifiable information is used for these purposes.
Personally identifiable information that you provide when registering, or purchasing items, on the McGill University Bookstore website will be used to fulfill any orders placed. We will also use this data to send you information according to the subscriptions that you have selected (opt-in) at time of registration.
Note, in order to complete your transaction, you be will directed to a secure page on our credit card processor's (Moneris) site to enter your payment information. Your credit card information is not captured nor retained by the McGill University Bookstore.
